The torrential rains have brought about massive flooding in Texas while the Houston area is virtually under water. Offices have been closed down while transportation has been halted. Houston has been a flood-prone area and this is the third consecutive year that Houston has been devastated by horrific floods causing enormous loss of life and property. Till Monday, there have been reports of eight deaths in Houston metro area.

The rainfall came down at a rate of about four inches an hour without giving any respite to the embattled city residents. More than a foot of rain in parts of Houston left scores of subdivisions and several major highways under water, knocked out power to thousands of people and closed schools. On Monday alone, about 1,000 evacuations were carried out as water levels continued to rise in neighborhoods and on roads.
